What is a traumatic brain injury (TBI)?

A traumatic brain injury (often referred to as TBI) is usually defined as a blow or jolt to the head or a penetrating injury that disrupts the function of the brain. It can cause a wide range of functional changes including memory loss and deficits, thinking difficulties, emotional changes, depression and decreased physical coordination.
